About
The Indigenous Territory Registration Agency (BRWA) is an institution that registers indigenous territories. BRWA was established in 2010 at the initiative of national organizations concerned with indigenous peoples' issues, namely the Alliance of Indigenous Peoples of the Archipelago (AMAN), the Indonesia Community Mapping Network (JKPP), Forest Watch Indonesia (FWI), the Consortium for Supporting Community Forest Systems (KpSHK), and Sawit Watch (SW). BRWA was formed because data and information on the existence of indigenous peoples and indigenous territories resulting from participatory mapping were not well documented. In addition, there is still no place and policy specifically regulating the process of registering indigenous territories in Indonesia. As a result, the central and local governments do not have complete and comprehensive data on the existence of indigenous peoples and maps of their indigenous territories.
